Karen, 29: “The braided chignon, my alternative to the braided crown!”

Your look? Elegant and strict. I don’t like to draw too much attention to myself with extravagant styles. Although I sometimes like to wear bold colours or chunky accessories for a bit of originality, the majority of my styles involve quite classic cuts and plain colours. I stay away from anything stripy, printed or dotted. For me, black is the most timeless and chic colour, and I just keep going back to it. Especially as it goes with absolutely everything!

Your hairstyle? I have fair skin and chestnut hair. Well, that’s my natural colour… I found it too strait-laced and felt it didn’t really reflect my personality. So when I saw the actress Christina Hendricks in the series Mad Men I fell in love with red hair. Not quite as flamboyant as the feisty star, but I went for a subtle red shade that melts into my hair. Today I simply cannot live without it and I give it lots of TLC every day to preserve it! I use products for coloured hair and visit my stylist once every 3 months for the necessary touch-ups.

Your look today? I have long hair and would not chop it off for anything in the world as I love the variety of options it gives me. I try out all sorts of up-dos and chignons. My friends actually call me Miss Chignon! Last year the bun was my favourite style. This summer, braids have caught my eye. I find the braided crown very pretty, but it’s too complicated for me. So instead, keeping with the chignon theme, I braid my hair before creating the style. First of all I pull my hair into a ponytail, and then I plait my hair in three strands, which I then roll around my ponytail. Simple and quick!
