Is permanently curling my straight hair a good idea?

Do you dream of having cascading curls which hold for weeks? Discover our expert’s advice to get wavy or curly hair, whilst preserving its vitality.

First of all, is it possible?

“Jean Louis David salons offer treatments for curling your hair in a long lasting way. However, these techniques haven’t been popular for several years. In fact, the perm’s golden age was the 80s, where it was more on trend than ever. The reason for its decline? Combining it with excessive coloring techniques. Some women ended up with highly damaged hair and they therefore boycotted it. Yet, when it is used wisely, the perm isn’t dangerous for your hair. It even offers you rapid hairstyling by giving movement to your haircut”.

“A perm isn’t a bad thing in itself”.

What is the technique used?

“To create a perm, your hairdresser will work on your hair’s structure. They will wrap it around rollers and will apply a product. The product penetrates the fiber and ensures the hair keeps a rounded shape. The smaller the roller, the curlier your hair will be. Alternatively, opt for bigger sized rollers if you wish to have large and floaty curls. The perm allows you to get magnificent and natural curls, giving movement and volume to straight or flat hair”.

Is it permanent?

The perm, by definition, is irreversible. Once you have permed hair, you should use products suited to your new style’s texture. Your objective: structure your curls! Furthermore, you should go to your hair salon every 2/3 months for any touch-ups to your hair as it grows. If you wish to have curly hair just for a few weeks, go for the S-Wave treatment. This allows you to make your hair wavy in a temporary way, obtaining a highly natural effect.
