How to stop my hair going greasy so quickly

All hair types can suffer from hair that goes greasy too quickly. But don’t panic, this issue can be avoided. Simply follow our advice from the pros.

Hair often goes greasy quickly because it is being washed too often. “Where possible, try to space out your hair washes as much as you can. Try to wash it no more than twice a week. Three times a week is too much. If you insist on washing your hair every day: use a frequent use, pH-neutral shampoo. This will avoid overexciting your sebaceous glands and prevent an oily scalp.”

You can buy shampoos to stop your hair going greasy so quickly. “These shampoos regulate the production of sebum by the sebaceous gland. This is what makes hair go greasy. Use a shampoo for greasy hair but look after your mid-lengths and ends, which tend to be a lot drier than your roots. Hydrate your lengths to make up for the shampoo’s drying effect.”

Dry shampoo can be a precious tool in the fight against greasy hair. “This is not a treatment as such but it does help keep your hair looking fresh all day long. Use it to avoid washing your hair, every other day, for example.”

Our tip: If you’re one of those people who washes their hair every day, try not to focus too much on the scalp, which tends to weaken easily. Concentrate more on your mid-lengths and ends.
