How to curl your hair without heat

Contrary to what you may think, you don’t need to use heated styling tools to curl your hair. In fact, all you need is time to create the perfect curl. Here’s our tutorial on how to create curls without heat.

So, you want curly hair for the day, but don’t have the necessary heated tools to create it? Don’t worry, you can still create curly hair! ‘You need to wet your hair and twist your hair into the desired shape, which can be done with non-heated curlers, then let your hair dry naturally. This is why you need time to create this style! Basically, this technique requires more time than if you were using a hair-dryer, but the end result will be the same’.

Only women with ultra-straight hair may have to use a hair-dryer. ‘Poker straight hair is very difficult to mould into curls, and the curl won’t hold it’s shape. Soft hair can be moulded into your desired curl shape. Try using a salt-water based product which will add some extra texture to your hair, making it easier to style. The main principle is to shape each strand of hair individually, even if it becomes tedious!’

To curl your hair, you have a few options to choose from. ‘To avoid using a curling iron, try braiding your hair. Make your braid tight or loose, depending on the look you are going for. You can also try simply twisting your hair into curls. Spray each strand with hairspray before creating the shape, to make sure the hold lasts as long as possible’.

Our advice. Opt for the heat-free styling techniques when you have the time. In summer, these styling techniques work quicker and a lot easier. The sun’s rays and heat dry your hair in no time at all, and you wont risk catching a cold either!
