How often should you get your hair cut?

How often you cut your hair all depends on your haircut, hair type and the condition of your hair, but also your desired look!

Hair in good condition: regular trims

When your locks are strong, shiny and silky soft to the touch, the only thing that will impact on how often you get your hair trimmed is your haircut.

If you have medium length to long hair

If you have shoulder length hair, get it trimmed every two months to keep the structure of your haircut intact and to keep your locks in tip-top condition.

However, with XXL locks, getting the ends trimmed every 3 to 4 months is generally enough. This applies unless you have layered or fine hair, in which case the ends tend to fray and be more prone to damage. If this applies to you, visiting your salon for a trim every 2 to 3 months is recommended to prevent split ends from forming.

If you have short hair

To take care of your short hair, prepare to have touch-ups done every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows, as a short haircut can quickly lose its shape and volume.

If you are leaving your hair to grow out

Even if you want long locks, you shouldn’t skip getting the tips trimmed regularly. Quite the opposite! It is essential to get your hair cut at least every 4 months, as split ends may set in and climb up your locks, leaving you no choice but to have it all chopped off.

Damaged hair: depending on the condition of your locks

Now’s the time to heed the warning signals that your hair is giving you, to know when you should get your hair cut.

If your hair is dull and prone to breakage

Is your hair lacking in shine, coarse and easily broken when you comb it? There’s no doubt about it: you should get your ends trimmed to have any split ends cut off or even the mid-lengths, so that you can start afresh with solid foundations.

If your curls are lacking in bounce

Are your waves lacking in volume and do your curls fall flat even after washing? As soon as treatments can no longer give shape to your curly locks, a few snips of the scissors can help you to reshape your curls.

Following re-growth at the roots to get back to your natural colour

If after years of colouring, you wish to get back your base colour, you should gradually eliminate the coloured part of your hair by getting the ends trimmed gradually as your hair grows out. The ideal frequency? Every 1 to 2 months, as hair grows around 1cm a month.

As soon as you have had enough of your haircut!

If you automatically tie your hair back in the morning, can no longer style it or you simply cannot be bothered, it is more often than not a sign that you have had enough of your locks. If this is the case, a new haircut is in order.
