How do you do a crimped ponytail?

Had you not seen this hairstyle since your school years? Well, the crimped ponytail, with its style firmly rooted in the nineties, is well and truly making a comeback. Here is how you can wear it nowadays, for a hairstyle that is more on trend than ever.

1. Prepare your hair

Do you have curly or frizzy hair? Crimping can only be carried out in straight or wavy hair so you should straighten your locks beforehand, taking care to use the right products for optimal non-damaging results. If your hair is already straight, all you need do is dry your locks and protect them from the heat using a thermo-active treatment.

2. Crimp your locks

Get your hands on a crimper with notched plates to mark out perfect zig-zags in your hair to boost your up-do. Select fine sections, slide them between the plates and press them together for a few seconds.

To get a vintage style ponytail, texturize your hair down the entire length. Start by crimping the roots and follow the strands down. Open up the plates to slide the crimper down further before clasping them together again. Continue doing this down to the tips!

To put a more subtle twist on your up-do, go for the crimped effect by crimping small sections, such as just the tips or certain parts of your locks. You can also crimp your hair here and there at random.

3. Choose your type of ponytail

With a middle part or without a parting and with your hair swept towards the back, you can wear your ponytail in several different ways. It can be perched high on top of your head for a perky style, at mid-height for a casual look or styled low-slung at the nape of your neck for an ultra-sophisticated hairstyle. Crimped ponytails can be adapted to suit your style. It is down to you to choose the version that suits you best!
