Although you might be looking forward to the summer season, your hair would happily go without it, and with good reason. What with UV rays, sea salt, sand and chlorine from swimming pools, the summer months aren't exactly a holiday for your hair. Subject to daily damage, your hair becomes dry, dull and brittle. To avoid that dreaded straw-like effect, the best thing you can do is to prepare your locks for summer. They need to be as healthy as possible before facing the onslaught of the season, particularly if you already have dry hair. If this is the case for you, consider getting your already fragile tips trimmed to get rid of any split ends. A month before you fly off to your next sunny destination, you could also apply a wheat germ treatment. Rich in Vitamin A, B and magnesium, this dietary supplement gives your hair all of the required nutrients to keep it in tip top condition.
For all other hair types, all you need do is protect your hair prior to each sun exposure, just as you would protect your skin. For those tempted to apply monoi oil, forget the idea. Under the action of the sun, this oil will "fry" your hair. Instead, rely on sun protection treatments. Our advice is to choose your products according to the nature of your hair. If you have fine hair, opt for light textures such as sprays. On the other hand if your hair is thick, go for more nourishing creams.
