Everything you need to know about the A-line bob

Thought you’d seen the last of the A-line bob? Think again. This timeless classic reinvents itself each season and can be worn by women of all ages thanks to its versatility: mid-length, short, wavy or straight with or without a fringe. If you’re not 100% convinced, take a look at our must-read facts before going for the chop.

Its distinctive features. The A-line bob generally involves asymmetric lengths, short at the rear and longer sections at the front. This style is perfect for reducing bulk whilst maintaining volume at the roots and sides. Ideal for those who are constantly complaining that their hair is flat! What’s more, this look can be adapted to suit almost anyone, even women with square face shapes. In fact, the asymmetric angles are ideal for softening a harsh jawline.

Its various forms. If you’re after an A-line bob with volume, opt for layers around the sides, alternating between short and long sections for more variation and movement. You could also give a wispy fringe a go or simply choose a centre parting. The good news? Whether your locks are straight, curly or wavy, the A-line bob works with all different hair types.

Keep your bob looking sharp. The shorter your bob, the more frequently you’ll need to visit the salon (around once every two months). On a day to day basis, bring out your layers with Beach Spray and scrunch hair with your fingertips for a relaxed effect. If you’re A-line bob is straight, try smoothing a couple of drops of Brush Cream throughout damp hair before drying with your hairdryer for optimum results.
