Brushing your hair: beauty tips to save your hair from damage

Although brushing your hair is something you do daily without thinking about it, it’s an essential part of your beauty regime. However, you still need to master the correct technique. We take a closer look at what you should do to brush your hair effectively.

When done by the book, brushing promotes shine and stimulates blood circulation. It is an essential part of your haircare regime that you should not overlook, particularly if it is done incorrectly, it can cause split ends to form.

Choosing the right brush

Choosing a brush that is not suited to your hair type can turn into a real nightmare: static electricity, irritated scalp, split ends… It can cause a serious hair disaster which you can avoid by choosing the right accessories that are gentle on your locks. Especially if you already have weak hair. If so, say goodbye to synthetic materials and opt for a brush with hog’s hair bristles, which are particularly soft. If you have thick hair, you can use a brush which combines hog’s hair with nylon bristles, which is perfect for thoroughly detangling very dense locks.

Always brush your hair when it is dry

Brushing your hair when you come out of the shower is guaranteed to cause breakage. When the hair fibre is over-saturated with water it is particularly fragile. Therefore, it is advisable to brush your hair before you wash it, then use a wide-tooth comb to detangle damp locks without damage.

Don’t skip brushing your hair before going to bed

Do you think brushing your hair in the morning is enough? Think again. Brushing your hair before going to bed is equally important. Whatever you do, don’t skip this essential step. It allows you to rid your hair of impurities accumulated throughout the day, and also helps eliminate any residue built up by using hair gel or spray. Free from all of this, your scalp will breathe much better overnight, making your hair less likely to become greasy.
