Brunette, blond, redhead: how do you choose between streaks or highlights?

Highlights and streaks are coloring techniques which are specifically designed to illuminate your hair. Discover which one suits you best and choose the color which is sure to enhance your features.

What are the differences between streaks and highlights?

Highlighting is partial coloring which enhances your hair with luminous strands. This corresponds to a Contrast treatment at Jean Louis David. By definition, this technique has a natural and discreet finish. Depending on your desired look, the different shades created are either lighter or darker than your initial color. Once you have highlights, they blend into your hair to give it maximum relief. They are also perfect for emphasizing the movement of your haircut.

Like highlights, streaks consist of adding different tones to your color. However, there are differences between these two techniques at the time of application. To create streaks, your hairdresser will select the thicker sections of hair. Even if the contrasts are more pronounced, you can still obtain a natural result by opting for tones closer to your base color.

Which tones should I choose for my hair color?

If your hair is brown, add light to it with auburn, mahogany or copper highlights or equally hazel or dark chestnut. Chocolate brown hair coloring is best for reviving dark brown hair. If you have light brown hair, boost its shine with caramel or golden strands. You can also illuminate your hair with dark blond highlights. As for red hair, opt for strawberry blond which is perfect for adding light to your hair color. Finally, if your hair is blond, you can go for any shade of blond…It all depends on your preference!
