Bridal hairstyles: say ‘I do’ wearing a 2014 style chignon

We’re just a few weeks away from the summer season, meaning it’s almost the busiest time of year for weddings to be happening all over the world. Although you have probably chosen your bridal gown months in advance, when it comes to the hairstyle department, brides can sometimes be left feeling confused and unsure of which style to pick for their big day, meaning a last-minute decision can be a likely scenario. Opt for a timeless chignon, taking direct inspiration from 2014s top trends.

The messy-bun chignon. This has to be the perfect style for a summer-inspired wedding. Ideally, this chignon should be styled with soft, wavy hair. Whether your hair is naturally curly or not doesn’t matter, however. The key element of this look is to make sure your style echoes this season’s romantic, bohemian trend. Copy the hairstyle spotted on the Alberta Ferretti runway (pictured) to create a low-slung, messy chignon. Start by creating wavy hair, either in the salon, or at home. Create a centre parting, then gather your hair at the nape of the neck. Allow a few strands to fly loose to add a mussed-up feel to your chignon. Secure your messy-bun style, teasing out strands to create an all-over relaxed feel. For extra femininity, add floral accessories.

The top-knot chignonThis classic look is perfect for brides-to-be who are looking for a fuss-free style that won’t need touching up throughout their big day. This chignon is simply stunning and will instantly open up the wearer’s face, allowing your features to glow radiantly. Start by brushing hair thoroughly, then scoop up from the back and secure into a high ponytail on the top of the head. Depending on the length of your natural hair, you may want to add a donut accessory to give your chignon added volume. Twist hair around the base of the ponytail, or feed through the donut to create an impressive, shapely bun. Add bobby pins to tame any flyaways and ensure your style stays firmly in place all day long. Spray evenly with hairspray to finish, then simply enjoy your big day and forget about looking after your style.

The floral-inspired chignonDon’t make the mistake of thinking floral headbands are for music festivals only! The floral headband is perfect for bridal hairstyles. With this style, your chignon all depends on the size of your headband. To start, create a centre parting with your comb. Place your floral headband where you want it to sit, then bring your hair upwards, above the headband to start styling your chignon. You don’t necessarily need to bring all of your hair above the headband, however some strands are needed to keep your style in place as long as possible. Complete your look by securing a low bun at the nape of the neck. Spray with hairspray and voila!
