Anna Sui’s mini kiss-curl fringe

Anna Sui has certainly outdone herself with this season’s high-impact, color-riche runway show, which took direct inspiration from the world of manga. Not only did she send some amazing prêt-à-porter pieces down the catwalk, she styled each model with a unique hairstyle; a super-short bob with a mini kiss-curl fringe.

The Chinese-American designer’s collection was clearly inspired by a retro theme, as can be seen by the hairstyle pictured. Each runway model was styled with an up-do and two front sections which hung loose around the face. Try this look if you’re a fan of framing your features and adding texture. The final touch came in the form of a kiss-curl fringe. This term originates from the 20s when women would gel small curls to their foreheads, however Anna Sui never does things by halves. Instead, the fringe section for these hairstyles were gelled into one, statement kiss curl.

Want to style this catwalk look for yourself? You’ll need an eyebrow-skimming fringe for starters. However, as for the rest of your hair, you can create this look whatever your hair length, providing your front sections reach your cheeks. Start by sectioning off the face-framing layers at the front. Next, secure your hair into a loose chignon. For the fringe, you should aim to create a central effect and the illusion of hair being slicked with gel. Apply plenty of hairspray to give your kiss-curl some staying power.
