Hairstyle

Accessorised lengths, from the catwalk to the high street?

After hair jewellery in summer, winter welcomes the hair necklace! On Chanel’s autumn-winter 2013-2014 catwalk, lengths are wrapped in a necklace that structures the hairstyle. And we’re not talking subtle necklaces. No, this season chunky, wide-chain necklaces are the must-have hair accessories. Will this look make it from the catwalk to the high street?

Accessorised lengths on the catwalk. This winter, alongside the beanie and the felt hat, this chunky accessory is having its say. On the catwalks, this necklace is far from discreet. Forget hiding it under the hair, it is wrapped around the hair for the ultimate bling-bling effect, with hair worn under the necklace.

What do we keep? The necklace, but a more subtle version. Yes, catwalks are often the trigger for new trends, but it’s difficult to pull off a necklace of this size and position day-to-day. Firstly, because we’re not convinced by the chunky dog-chain necklace.  But also because your hair can get stuck in the necklace and tear, which can be quite painful. Pain and an undesirable appearance make for a rather unattractive combination!

How to wear it. Toned down. Keep the ultra-straight lengths and the necklace. But subtlety is key. By all means feel free to wear a chain necklace, but choose something that’s easier to pull off day-to-day. The necklace should be placed under the hair to stop it getting stuck in the chain. Choose accessories that flatter you, not ones that hurt you!
