A closer look at red brown

Maybe you have fallen in love with red hair, but are unsure whether to take the plunge and abandon your natural brown shade? If so, red brown is made for you! Read on to take a look at all of its benefits.

What is red brown?

It is a shade of hair colouring which combines red highlights with your shade of brown to give it a real colour boost and to add contrast to your dark base colour. Amongst all of the shades of red, red brown is a great alternative to vibrant reds, such as flaming red, and it is the ally of brunettes who want to slowly make a transition to red. With red brown you can opt for a partial coverage treatment such as highlights applied to the lengths for a subtle and natural result, or go for a complete coverage colouring treatment, which in this case is still far from being a radical change.

Choose your highlights to suit your base colour

Perfect for adding character to chestnut to brunette hair, red brown highlights range from copper brown to auburn to intense red to suit to all shades of brunette. For a flattering look, the chosen shade must be as close to your natural colour as possible. For example, opt for copper highlights to add varying shades to chestnut brown or vibrant highlights to put a twist on a medium brown base. However, opt for red highlights to warm up natural brown without adulterating it.

Personalised upkeep

Like all colouring techniques, red brown requires upkeep with treatments specifically formulated for coloured hair to keep the colours strong. If you have gone for full coverage red brown, you should plan to visit your colourist regularly. However, if the colouring treatment is focused on your lengths, you can manage regrowth as you please without that obvious growing-out roots look!
