3 no-hair-tie updos

Simplicity is the word to keep in mind for autumn-winter 2014-2015. Hairstyles are being pared back, and even hair ties are disappearing! Give your outfit a touch of individuality and your hairstyle some long-lasting hold with 3 updo ideas which don’t require hair elastics. Say hello to your new season style!

The fishtail braidModels on the Léonard runway (pictured) were spotted wearing a side, fishtail braid. To get the look, create a side parting and braid your plait on the opposite side. Keep your braid fairly messy and bohemian-inspired to nail this trend. Keep in mind that the ends of your braid should stay firmly in place, despite skipping your regular hair tie. The secret? Backcomb your ends to ensure your braid stays put all day long.

The messy chignonThis look is slightly more complicated than the fishtail braid, however is still relatively easy to style. This hairstyle is more suited to thick, voluminous hair types, as this helps create body and fullness. Create a chignon as you normally would, keeping one strand loose to act as your hair tie later. Wrap this strand around your chignon to secure in place, and pin with bobby pins if necessary, until your bun feels sturdy.

The high ponytailThis style is very similar to the messy chignon when it comes to securing your hair into place. Start by combing your hair upwards, towards the crown area. Next, rather than securing with a hair tie, take a small strand of hair from your ponytail and wrap tightly around the base. Secure this with a few discreet bobby pins and disguise them with your outer strand. The aim of this look is to completely conceal any signs of using hair elastics or hair pins.
