True or false? Everything you need to know before coloring your hair

Bored of your current look and keen to change your hairstyle? Why not color your hair! Before taking the plunge, discover our top tips and advice for the perfect transformation.

You should apply your color to clean hair: FALSE! Ideally, you should avoid washing your hair for 3 days before coloring it. If your locks are too clean, the color will not take and may appear patchy. Your hair should also be fairly healthy, as dry and damaged lengths can weaken even further after a color is applied.

Your color will look better when done by a stylist: TRUE! Don’t take the risk and opt for a salon color to prevent any mishaps. Your stylist is the best person to create a completely bespoke color just for you. They will use professional techniques and products specifically adapted to your individual hair type. What’s more, your color should last much longer thanks to the salon-finish!

Hair coloring does not damage hair: TRUE! If your hair is healthy and in good condition before the dyeing process, there is no reason why coloring your hair should cause damage. On the contrary, it will instantly make your locks appear glossier and shinier than ever. However, once you’ve applied your color, you need to commit to using the correct haircare products to maintain and restore color whilst strengthening the hair fibers. The Color Therapy range is a must-have for colored locks.

Once you’ve colored your hair, there’s no going back: FALSE! This all depends on your personal choice. A temporary hair color, highlights and lighter tones can be reversed quite easily. However, you’ll need to wait for your hair to grow out completely to get rid of a permanent color. So, make sure you think long and hard about your desired shade before heading to the salon!
