Step-by-step tutorial: create unraveled braid-esque curls

Inject some spring-inspiration into your winter look this season to stay one step ahead of the crowd. Follow our step-by-step tutorial to creating soft waves, similar to those achieved by unraveling braids, at home.

The trend. These curls, much like the types of braids worn during the 70s, were spotted on the Stella McCartney 2015 runway at New York Fashion Week. The finished look should appear as natural as possible, as if you’ve just loosened your braids after plaiting and drying them with a blow dryer.

Who can wear soft waves? Women with straight locks who would love to add some volume to their style. However, all other hair types can just as easily nail this relaxed, chilled-out vibe to create a casual look.

Get the runway look. Start by washing your hair, preferably with Nutrition and Shine from the Hydra Therapy range. These will help to strengthen and deeply nourish your locks. After treating your hair with the correct products, apply a small amount of heat-protective serum throughout your style to prevent any heat-related damage. Part your hair in the centre, then blow dry your hair backwards, away from your face. You’ll then need to switch on your curling iron and tong random sections throughout your style. For best results, wrap the end around the barrel of your curler, then twist upwards, stopping at the mid-lengths before releasing. For the final touches, spray all over evenly with hairspray for a long-lasting finish.
