How to create multiple sleek braids

Sleek braids are back with a vengeance this season. Both timeless and on-trend, multiple braids were recently spotted on the Alexander McQueen runway at Paris Fashion Week. This winter, make sure your braids are fine, elegant and multiplying in number.

The trend. A multitude of braids that open up the face. You can wear this trend if your hair is long, or simply add extensions if you require more length. Just like the Marchesa autumn-winter 2014-2015 runway at New York Fashion Week, your braids should finish at the nape of the neck, allowing your mid-lengths and ends to hang loose.

Who can wear multiple braids? Anybody who needs to add a more casual feel to their outfit. Sleek braids are ideal for perfecting that urban-chic feel whilst also complimenting a dramatic make-up look.

Get the runway look. Start by making sure you have several hair elastics nearby to secure your braids, as well as some gel to smooth down any pesky flyaways. Separate your hair into several different sections, keeping in mind that each section represents one braid. With the first section, divide again into 3 equal pieces. You can then braid as normal, passing the right section over the middle section, then repeating on the opposite side, incorporating new sections as you go along. Continue until you reach the base of your neck, then secure with a hair tie.

Tip of the day. Once you’ve mastered this technique, play around with different braid styles for a variety of modern looks. Let your imagination run wild!
