3 must-know facts before getting hair extensions

Do you dream of long hair and feel ready to take the plunge with hair extensions? Discover our top tips before making your choice.

Choose the right technique for you. Firstly, there are heat-bonded extensions, which are inserted strand by strand with a keratin bond and heated tool. This technique is long-lasting and can remain in the hair for up to 6 months. Next, there are cold-bonded extensions which are attached with small metal rings and sealed in at the root. Finally, clip-in extensions are the easiest to apply. You can take them out and adjust how they look depending on your tastes. If these techniques are done correctly, there is no risk to your natural hair.

Opt for natural hair. When using extensions, your aim should be to make them invisible to the naked eye. The better quality extensions you use, the harder it will be to tell you are wearing them. You can also color natural hair and use them for longer periods when taken care of properly (using the correct shampoo, conditioner and masks). Every morning, brush thoroughly before styling to keep them healthy and in top condition.

Always make a salon appointment. This is a fail-safe way to ensure your extensions are of high quality. Avoid any DIY… your stylist is the best person to guide you and ensure the best end result. They have been professionally trained and will be able to select the exact right quantity and placement of hair to perfect your new look. Similarly, you should always book in with your salon when you want to remove your long hair, as the glue used can damage hair if removed incorrectly.
